SWIM GROUPS
Stroke Team– our entry level group with swimmers usually graduating in from swim lessons. Each young swimmer should be able to go 25 yards freestyle with side breathing and be able to put their face in the water, backstroke, as well as swim in water over their heads. This group practices twice each week for one hour. Competition is not required, but we do offer local and very low key races.
Ages 5 – 8 years old
Practice twice a week for one hour each time.
Blue Team – swimmers generally move to this group from Stroke Team ,but some swimmers may begin with Novice Team and by-pass our first level. Swimmers must be able to swim both freestyle and backstroke for 50 yards and have a fundamental understanding of breaststroke. This group is focused on teaching the swimmers and will also ask them to press themselves athletically while in practice. The goal will be to have fun while learning and working. Training will include one or two racing style items each week. Along with strokes we will learn turns in this group.
Ages 7 – 9 years old Recommend attending 3-4 times per week, each for one hour.
Varsity Team – swimmers who are 9 years and older. Each swimmer should be able to go 25 yards freestyle with side breathing and be able to put their face in the water, backstroke, as well as swim in water over their heads. Focus is on developing all four swimming strokes. Also for swimmers in High School and desire to improve for the benefit of their High School competitive swimming program. They will be offered but not required to compete in local swim meets.
Ages – 9 years and older
Recommend attending 2-4 times per week.
Silver Team – swimmers entering this group should be proficient in both freestyle and backstroke while also having a base level swimming ability in both breaststroke and butterfly. This is our first level as both a training and competitive group. The premise of this group remains predominantly on continued learning but will introduce daily training sets, appropriate for the age and level of these athletes. We begin to focus on both the 200 free and the individual medley events. In this group we will also work on starts.
Ages 9 years and older
Practice offered six days/week, each for 1 1/2 hours. Expected attendance at least 3 times per week.
Junior Team – this group is designed for middle school aged athletes, generally in 7th and 8th grade. They will work on improving both technique and training ability. The focus remains on all four strokes and learning how to compete in all events. Athletes in this group learn to broaden their training abilities.
Ages 10 – 14 years of age
Expected attendance at least 4 times per week. Must attend Saturday practice
Senior Team – generally for swimmers who are High School age but middle school age swimmers who can train at this level will also be offered the opportunity to be on the Senior Team. Competition is required, but there is a choice of which competitions to enter. The training will be in all four competitive strokes and a high focus is put on the High School season.
Ages – 13 years and older
Recommend attending 4-6 times per week
Tsunami Elite Team – designed for the athletes committed to competing at the highest possible levels. A swimmer need not be qualified for USA Nationals to be in this group, but the daily attitude towards competitive swimming must be compatible with the goal of reaching that level. Training is geared towards individual talents, although a strong aerobic endurance factor is present.
Daily attendance and team competitions are required. Practice offered six days/week, each for two and a half to three hours.
During the week over the school year there will be NO Morning swim practices offered, except for Middle School athletes. We will offer strength training for members of the Senior & National Teams before school if possible, to allow for evening time to all be for water training |
