Area 3/5 Championships March
2013
Below is a recap of our entire meet, not an easy
feat given not just the number of swimmers but more so the number
of great swims we had from start to finish. This was undoubtedly
our best team meet yet and to say we made our presence known would
be an understatement. Our team cheers and our gloriously loud
parent cheering section could have been enough, but it was more how
loud we swam, coming from behind time and again to win heats and
events. Seeing often not just one or two but at times three and
four Tsunami swimmers in the final heats at night. Watching
swimmers at the far end of the pool waving team pom – poms
and cheering on their teammates. Seeing the smiles earned not from
a great swim but from the hard work it takes to earn that right to
smile after a race. From all of our newest swimmers to our most
veteran, this was a meet to remember. Speaking not just for myself
but for all of the coaches, to our swimmers and parents –
thank you. It is an honor to stand on a deck, wearing our blue, red
& white and being a coach for such a great group of athletes.

hard work and disciple can get you.
Stroke Team by Coach Lisa - 5:00
Stroke team braved the large crowds and left their mark for great
things to come from these three boys. Lucas
Lopatinsky had an impressive first meet. He overcame his
initial nerves, due to the large size of the meet, swimming his
best times in the 25 free, 25 breast and the 50 free. Troy
Ashby started his Tsunami career with a 7 second drop in
the 25 breast stroke, following that with a best time in the 50
backstroke. Sunday he had his largest time drop taking 32 seconds
off of his best 50 free and rounding that out with a 10 second time
drop in the 25 backstroke. Ronan Murphy followed
his first meet up with a stunning second meet at the Area 3-5
Championships. Ronan dropped time in all his
swims. He placed well in all events, setting the standard for all 6
year old swimmers by placing among the top 3 of all 6 year olds and
beating many much older swimmers. GO STROKE TEAM!!!

minute in the 100]. Mattie got faster each time she touched the
water. Luci Bussiere – improved in all but
one event, a total of five for the weekend. Her 50 breaststroke
alone was more than a 2.5 sec. improvement. Great job Luci!

coming down with a virus. A lot of spunk and determination went
into those swims. Nora Murphy – 22 second
drop in her 500 free says it all. She added 3 second drops in her
IM as well as both 100 & 200 free events. Great job
Nora!Kaitlin Rhyne – swam best times in five
of six events with 9 second drops in both the 100 IM & free and
a 10 second drop in her 100 back. Most swimmers never have 30
seconds drop for an entire season, she did it in just three
events!Olivia Schwartz – should get our
tough swimmer award, on the last night she swam back to back events
in the 200 breast against the senior girls and in three minutes
going her best time in the 100 free. Olivia swam best times in
almost all events but her 12:11 in her first ever 1000 free was

Not to be left out, she swam best times in IM, free and fly. Great
effort in her individual swims. Elizabeth

days and only one week to get ready, Lizzy still showed her
tenacity and strength by swimming best times in both the IM and
both breast events. She made the top ten in five of her eight
events.
Open - Jay Cho, 17,
swimming just one day Jay made finals in both fly and IM, and in
his 200 IM swim it was not only the 6 second drop but his
phenomenal finish, coming from behind to tie for
1stplace in that event. Jay is in only his first year of
year round swimming. Chris Clark, 18, racing a
total of 2700 yd. over the weekend, Chris was at or bettered his
bests a total of five times. He scored top 16 a total of six
times.Graham Devitt, 15, is a very young
competitor, he swam a lifetime best on Friday night in his
signature 500 free, breaking the 6 minute barrier, and then never
looked back. He swam best times every time on the blocks, dropping
between 2 and 16 seconds every time he swam. Morgan
Defour, 16, one of our newest year round swimmers, ten
days vacation did not prevent Morgan from taking further steps
forward in his new career. He went best times in his 50 fr, 100 fr,
200 fr and swam the 200 IM for the first time. A very bright future
for this swimmer. Gillian Gardner, 15, she had a
best time in her 50 free, then was off in her next two swims. When
she returned to the pool for finals to support her teammates she
found out she had made it into the 200 back consolation finals.
Gillian had a second chance and made the most of it, swimming 10
seconds faster than her prelim swim and nearly 5 seconds faster
than her best. One person once said that luck is nothing more than
hard work meeting opportunity. Olivia Grangeon,
16, a new National Honor Society members at Cardinal Mooney HS, she
swam best times in both back and fly but it was her evening finals
in the 100 & 200 free that were most impressive. Her 5 second
drop from prelims to finals in the 200 free raised her five places
in the heat. Way to go Olivia. Karl Hegwein, 18,
continues to set team records as he goes from meet to meet. He took
a first, 3 seconds and a third. In doing so he set new team records
in the 200 & 500 free. Vinny Lijoi, 15, one of
our fastest improving swimmers, he dropped 20 seconds in his 500
free and came back the same night to drop 12 seconds in his 400 IM.
He continued swimming best times and placing into finals in back
and free throughout the weekend. Sydney Panzarino,
16, took a first in the fly, second in the IM and third in the
free. Her hard work and consistency at practice is paying off.
Jillian Santiago, 12, how do you top one of the
best meets ever two weeks earlier at the FLAGS Champs. Swimming in
the open division against older athletes, she swam to best times in
400 IM [team record], 1000 free [team record] and 200 breast. Most
impressive was her come form behind win in the finals of the 100
free. TC Smith, 13, swimming mainly in the open
division against older men, TC held his own and posted best times
in the 100 free [finished 8th], 100 breast [4 sec. drop]
and 200 breast [12 sec. drop, finished 2nd].
Katy Sweet, 14, swam best times in five of six
events, including 4 sec. drop in her 100 bk and 5 sec. drop in her
200 IM.Bianca Tengerdy, 16, trying to juggle
school play [director] and swim meet was not easy but she did
manage to compete on Saturday and go 3 for 3 best times, with a 12
second drop in her 200 back.
WAY TO GO TSUNAMI...CAN'T WAIT FOR THE
